山下達郎, commonly known as Tatsuro Yamashita, is a highly acclaimed Japanese musician known for his contributions to the City Pop genre. Born on February 4, 1953, in Tokyo, Japan, Yamashita began his musical career in the early 1970s as a member of the band "Sugar Babe" before embarking on a successful solo career.
Throughout his career, Yamashita has released a total of 17 studio albums, 2 live albums, and multiple compilations, as well as over 40 singles. His music has resonated with audiences in Japan and beyond, making him one of the most commercially successful Japanese male solo recording artists in history. With approximately 9 million albums sold, Yamashita has solidified his place as a legendary figure in the Japanese music industry.
In addition to his solo work, Yamashita has composed music for films, television commercials, and has collaborated with other artists. He was also a member of the band "Niagara Triangle" alongside other prominent musicians. In 1982, Yamashita married fellow artist Mariya Takeuchi, further solidifying his ties to the music industry.
